Kate Brodock, CEO
Kate has played an active leadership role in the women in tech ecosystem for the past decade, having led a global non-profit focused on women in technology and entrepreneurship as its President for several years.
Most recently, she was CMO of untapt, an AI-driven tech talent marketplace based in NYC and has held the role of Adjunct Professor in PR and Marketing at at Syracuse University.
Kate has spoken at and been featured in numerous places, including SXSWi, Collision Conference, Fast Company’s Innovation Uncensored, IBT, MCNBC, TechCrunch and Al Jazeera America and writes for Forbes.
She has a BA from the University of Rochester, an MBA from Goizueta Business School at Emory University and an MA in International Relations from the Fletcher School at Tufts University.
When she’s not doing all *that*, she’s a very non-professional (but adventurous!) athlete, an equally as non-professional musician, can be found outdoors in any weather — skiing, biking, hiking, sailing — loves a good meal with bubbly, craft beer and good friends, hilariousness and life. Her husband is a web-developer-turned-beer-guy and they now live on a hops farm in Upstate, NY. She can be found on Twitter at @just_kate.
Emily Sanders Hopkins, Editor
Emily is Women 2.0’s editor. She has worked in editorial roles at some of the country’s best magazines and websites—from The New Yorker magazine to award-winning university magazines at Johns Hopkins, Quinnipiac, and Cornell. She has been a contributing editor at Scholastic Inc. and WeAreTeachers.com and has won numerous awards for marketing and advertorial content.
She holds a BA from West Virginia University and an MA from Johns Hopkins University.
On the side, she loves to read dictionaries. Her other hobbies include writing poetry, drawing cartoons, and Crossfit. Her erstwhile fashion/humor blog, What To Wear This Very Second, has stood the test of time, sort of.
Sim Hurse, Director of Partnerships
Sim is a people person in a tech context.
Prior to joining Women 2.0 as director of partnerships, Sim helped found and build Meural, a funded IoT company based in NYC. She has also helped build a nonprofit for people in tech, established and directed the language department at a private university for 3D animation and video game design, and rolled out an online teaching system for people learning financial English, among other things.
In addition to her role at Women 2.0, Sim is currently a mentor at the IoT TechStars program in NYC, and runs a popular breakfast meet up group for women in tech.
Born in Australia, Sim has also lived in England and France. She moved to the States in 2013, and now considers herself a committed New Yorker. She is equally committed to getting (and keeping) more women in tech – because tech is our futures, and women must be a part of building it.
Alison Cheung, Program Manager
Alison is the program manager at Women2.0, in charge of the Men As Allies initiative (watch this space!). She is also the Chief of Staff of Headstart, a revolutionary recruiting tool which uses Machine Learning to help companies identify which candidates would be the best fit for their job opportunities.
Previously the Marketing Brand Lead at Google in London, she has always believed in the importance of spreading awareness of the benefits and potential of technology, as well as its risks and the problem of the democratization of technology, resulting in unequal access. Ultimately, technology needs to be put to good use and to empower its users. Therefore, being at the forefront of shaping technological products and their marketing message truly excites her.
Empowerment has always been her primary goal in life. At university, she provided over 200 students with international volunteering exchanges to enable them not only to grow personally and professionally, but also to contribute towards helping others grow. Professionally, she has stayed true to this goal and endeavoured to work on products that add significant value to both consumers and businesses, such as Android and Think With Google.
In her free time, you’ll find her in a coffee shop trying to strike up conversations with coders (more like pestering) or in a yoga studio slipping on my yoga mat. She is improving… slowly but surely.
Samantha, Social Media and Content Marketing Manager
Samantha is a recent high school graduate with abstract passions in journalism through her involvement as an intern for Women 2.0. She currently lives amidst the buzzing tech hub of Silicon Valley, quite literally down the road from Google Headquarters in Mountain View, CA. Next fall, she will be majoring in Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics as a freshman at UCLA.
Prior to Women 2.0, Samantha worked as a teaching assistant at the Community School of Music and Arts, where she helped lead and teach art projects to elementary school children. She is also experienced in social media marketing from interning with the Bay Area startup BondsWell, a social platform for people to share collages of their own inspirations.
In high school, Samantha was very active in both academics and extracurriculars, achieving honor roll status as a senior and earning the title of Editor-in-Chief of her school’s award-winning publication, the MVHS Oracle. Outside of school, Samantha served as a youth philanthropist on the Los Altos Community Foundation’s E3 advisory board, which is composed of students dedicated to evaluating grant proposals from local/international programs in order to allocate funding on behalf of the city. She enjoys tennis, badminton, and piano—all of which she has been playing and practicing since a young age. When she’s not on the court or reciting a favorite musical piece, Samantha can be found exploring the outdoors with friends and family, cozying up to Netflix movie marathons, or adventuring the sea of exotic flavors as a devoted “foodie.”
Anne-Gail Moreland, Digital Manager
Anne-Gail is the Digital Manager of Women 2.0, creating strategies to bring digital content to users through appealing and efficient social and UX practices. Currently studying Neuroscience at Mount Holyoke College, Anne-Gail is trying to merge a passion of tech and the brain into a new wave of cognition-based technology.
Most recently Anne-Gail claimed first prize in the cognitive category at HampHack 2017 for work on a game that merged EEG output with the Unity game engine. In addition, Anne-Gail is adding new languages to the skills belt everyday – from CSS and Java to C# and SQL.
An advocate for developing strong and diverse communities, Anne-Gail has spoken at Facebook, HampHack and Stuyvesant Highschool on promoting LGBTQ+ diversity in tech.
When not in the tech world, Anne-Gail tends to step out and take a breath, and loves hiking in rainy woods, curling up with a book or painting.
Brianna Alston, Social Media and Content Marketing Manager
Brianna is an rising senior majoring in Socio-Cultural Anthropology and concentrating in Computer Science at Columbia University in the City of New York. At Columbia, Brianna is involved in the Columbia Mentoring Initiative providing mentorship to incoming freshman from underrepresented backgrounds. She also is heavily involved with the Intercultural Resource Center, which is devoted to promoting a just society and exploring intercultural and diversity issues within and beyond the Columbia University community. Within the Center she started the Self-Care Initiative which provides space and resources to women of color on campus so that they may independently and consciously learn how to navigate their wellbeing on campus.
At Women 2.0 Brianna is hoping to bring that same energy and dedication to the women who are in the tech world whether that be through content creation or social media.
Currently, Brianna has been working as a UI/UX design intern in Silicon Valley at a female-founded startup.
When she’s not working or studying Brianna likes to read Octavia Butler, go on tea dates with her mom, and visit local thrift stores.
